This post wouldn’t come alive if my friend from wordpress – Dan – wouldn’t offer me a deal to post some photos of this beautiful historical town in Bulgaria. So we did a deal – I will post some photos from my archive and he will post some as well. I like challenges so why not?

Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
Beautiful town with rich history. I have been there in 2010 and 2011 and I was told Veliko Tarnovo was the historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire.
Since I love history, castles and castle ruins it was a pleasure for me to take a walk through this beautiful town.
Few facts about Veliko Tarnovo (Велико Търново)
* one of the oldest settlements in Bulgaria, with a history of more than five millennia
*the first traces of human presence, dating from the 3rd millennium BC, were discovered on Trapezitsa Hill
*is often referred to as the “City of the Tsars”
* the city was built on three hills: Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora
*city with unique architecture
*home of two major universities
*foremost educational and cultural center
Hello Majka! Seeing your pictures already relive the magic of the place. But unfortunately I can not make another post than next week. I need the weekend to select and prepare photos.
that is ok, Dan 🙂 I will add your link to my post after you posted your photos 🙂 take your time
I love that Tzarevets has been maintained with a careful balance of preservation and reconstruction, and just enough signage to identify the structures and give you a sense of historical perspective without interfering with the ability to feel the essence of the place for yourself.
It was very nice to see this beautiful historical town and though I has never been inside the Tzarevets I felt the history by taking each step through the Veliko Tarnovo.
