Sunday Photo Hunting – 2016 Week #25

Some years ago I was attracted by breeding exotic insects and since I couldn’t get that time Eurycantha Calcarata, my brother offered me a Peruphasma schultei pair. I was impressed by their color combination, shammy skin and the bright red wings. I enjoyed breeding them for a while, but since they are doing very well as pets and breeding is not difficult, they had many babies and after a while it began to be unbearable to keep them. Be very careful with breeding them, if you don’t plan to make profitΒ πŸ™‚ They will spread very fast and in a short while it will be difficult to recognize the poop from the eggs :-)))

  1. That is one big critter lol

  2. Awesome looking insects! πŸ™‚

    • And a little dangerous. It releases a fluid when in danger and it is not the nicest scent πŸ™‚

  3. Thanks for the info, Majka. They look Awesome.

  4. I used to have a praying mantis for a pet for a long time (it would lay fertile egg sacks without a mate (which we later put outdoors)… and Madagascan millipedes.

    • No way I would touch Madagascar millipedes πŸ˜€ I know some people like it but NO for me :-))) I was thinking about the praying mantis but I preferred Eurycantha.

  5. My wife didn’t like the millipedes much either; she like the mantis. I fed mine frozen brine shrimp (for tropical fish) that i thawed into a jelly… and it would eat it off of my finger. I outlived all the similar wild ones and became very sociable.

    • Sounds very interesting πŸ™‚ I could’t keep any insect now, my husband is afraid of them and he doesn’t like lizard either. πŸ™‚ (Jamaican don’t like things that crawling or sneaking)

  6. I am not going to have bug pets… sorry πŸ™‚ the ones that come uninvited are enough for me πŸ™‚
