Bulgarian master architect Nikola Fichev or Kolyo Ficheto is famous in his country, almost a household name, but little is known about him. So little that a book with half its pages devoted to him and his work begins straightforwardly “When today we stop at Master Kolyo Ficheto, one of the most modest figures from the Bulgarian Renaissance period and we ask ourselves what we know of his life, the answer can only be—nothing or almost nothing.” Kolyo Ficheto was born in 1800 and died in 1881. This was a long enough lifetime both for him to enjoy the liberation from the Ottoman Empire and to have younger architects using modern techniques “ignore his advice, knowledge and longtime experience.”
Thanks a lot for this short introduction and for stopping by!. I visited Bulgaria twice and I liked Veliko Tarnovo because of its beautiful historical parts and I also read some facts about this town.
Have a great rest of your day!
