Truth is the Key that Sets Us Free

Devotional

“Truth is the Key that Sets Us Free”

I can honestly tell you that I believe God has revealed to me the secret of overcoming insecurity. I know what it is like to live in bondage and I know what it’s like to live in freedom and freedom is better. Do I still have moments of worry, self-doubt and uncertainty? Yes, but I no longer live in that prison. I have found the key and my prayer is that through this knowledge you will find that same freedom for your own life.

The key that unlocks those chains, the secret to overcoming insecurity, the power we have been given to fight off the lies, is Truth. If believing lies keeps us in the bondage of insecurity then certainly believing truth is the key that sets us free. If we do not know the truth, we do not know freedom. But what is truth, and how do we use it to unlock the prison of insecurity?

In His three years of ministry Jesus called Himself many things. But no synonym for the name of Jesus is more powerful than “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). Jesus is the Truth, and a relationship with Him is the only way we will ever know true freedom.

You may already have a relationship with Jesus. Perhaps you’ve been following Him for some time, you go to church, occasionally read the Word, serve others, and live a generally good life. Yet, many people with a relationship with Jesus are still struggling to break free from the hurts and hang-ups in their life. Having a relationship with Jesus is simply where we start. To continue growing we must use the resources He’s given us as weapons in this battle. The number one resource we have is His Word.

Sadly, many Christ-followers either aren’t in the Word on a regular basis, or if they are, simply check it off as another to-do. We forget that His Word is the Ring of Keys which unlock the ancient, iron-walled doors of insecurity in our lives. Your enemy knows this and will do anything he can to keep you from picking up the Word because he sees it for what it is: A weapon that cuts to the quick of his deception, a key that frees his captives, and a standard to which everything should be compared.

Echoes in Eternity

Night is coming—for you and for me. Getting to heaven has nothing to do with our righteous works. Our entrance fee is paid for fully by Jesus and his perfect sacrifice. But Scripture is clear that our treasure in heaven is connected to our lives on earth. It is possible to go into eternity with a saved soul and a wasted life. The missionary Amy Carmichael said, “We will have all of eternity to celebrate the victories, and only a few hours before sunset in which to win them.” This fact should motivate us as, it motivated Paul, who said, “Whether I live today or die—I only want to please Him.”

The devil will do anything he can to keep you from sensing the urgency that will mark your life if you wake up each day knowing it could be your last. He won’t try to talk you out of doing the things you are intended to; he’ll simply tell you to put it off. One of his biggest lies is, “You can do it tomorrow.” He knows what you need to know—there might not be a tomorrow. Today could be your one and only chance to be kind to that stranger, tell your kids about Jesus, or invite that person to church. You need to carpe the heck out of this diem!

Pain Is a Microphone

Suffering isn’t an obstacle to being used by God. It is an opportunity to be used like never before.

You’re actually better fit for ministry in the crucible of pain. You have a stronger voice to project and to declare, and it’s easier to belt from the diaphragm of your soul when you’re hurting. It’s counterintuitive, but in the middle of my hardest mess, I’ve found ministry to be a great strength waiting to be tapped into. It was welling up within me—a greater desire than ever before to tell the whole world that Jesus Christ can turn off the dark—because I experienced it myself. Right there, at ground zero, in the valley of the shadow of death. As hard as it was to claw our way through on hands and knees in those moments, Jennie and I found that when we poured our pain into ministry, whole new levels of usefulness opened up. There’s perhaps no time you are as powerful as when you minister in the midst of pain.

HE’s Still on Time

Happy Sabbath!

“Lord,” Martha said to Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”

A Strange Way To Save The World

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
