Truth is the Key that Sets Us Free

Devotional

“Truth is the Key that Sets Us Free”

I can honestly tell you that I believe God has revealed to me the secret of overcoming insecurity. I know what it is like to live in bondage and I know what it’s like to live in freedom and freedom is better. Do I still have moments of worry, self-doubt and uncertainty? Yes, but I no longer live in that prison. I have found the key and my prayer is that through this knowledge you will find that same freedom for your own life.

The key that unlocks those chains, the secret to overcoming insecurity, the power we have been given to fight off the lies, is Truth. If believing lies keeps us in the bondage of insecurity then certainly believing truth is the key that sets us free. If we do not know the truth, we do not know freedom. But what is truth, and how do we use it to unlock the prison of insecurity?

In His three years of ministry Jesus called Himself many things. But no synonym for the name of Jesus is more powerful than “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6). Jesus is the Truth, and a relationship with Him is the only way we will ever know true freedom.

You may already have a relationship with Jesus. Perhaps you’ve been following Him for some time, you go to church, occasionally read the Word, serve others, and live a generally good life. Yet, many people with a relationship with Jesus are still struggling to break free from the hurts and hang-ups in their life. Having a relationship with Jesus is simply where we start. To continue growing we must use the resources He’s given us as weapons in this battle. The number one resource we have is His Word.

Sadly, many Christ-followers either aren’t in the Word on a regular basis, or if they are, simply check it off as another to-do. We forget that His Word is the Ring of Keys which unlock the ancient, iron-walled doors of insecurity in our lives. Your enemy knows this and will do anything he can to keep you from picking up the Word because he sees it for what it is: A weapon that cuts to the quick of his deception, a key that frees his captives, and a standard to which everything should be compared.

Love means allowing others freedom

Love Means Allowing Others Freedom

We all have difficulty owning what is ours. We disown what is ours and try to own what belongs to others. We often see this in relationships between parents and their grown children, as was the case with Rebekah and her son Jacob. Parents are to raise their kids so that their children can make their own decisions in adulthood. Yet it’s fairly common to see parents trying to control the decisions of their adult children. Rebekah did this when she pushed Jacob to deceive his father, and Jacob allowed Rebekah to control his actions rather than take charge of them himself.

In today’s world, similar violations might play out in a number of ways. For example, an adult son may make plans for Thanksgiving and therefore be unable to visit with his parents. His parents may have to deal with the disappointment of not celebrating Thanksgiving the way they want to. We cannot own things that are not ours, like our adult children’s time and plans. A healthy response by these parents would be to grieve for their lost wish for Thanksgiving with family and create some sort of satisfying holiday apart from their son.

It’s easy to say we love others but difficult to allow them the freedom inherent in love. We withdraw, feel resentful, send guilt messages and attempt to control those who do things against our wishes. These actions kill freedom and will, and they eventually kill love. Love cannot exist without freedom, and freedom cannot exist without responsibility. We must own and take responsibility for what is ours, and that includes our disappointment in not getting everything we want from another person. The disappointment that comes from our loved ones exercising their freedom is our responsibility. We must deal with it. This is the only way to keep love alive.

The Weekly Photo Challenges: State of Mind

In response to The Weekly Photo Challenges with a State of Mind theme

Joy and freedom

Joy and freedom

This photo is speaking very very loud. It is full of joy and freedom, two emotions I felt walking beside these beautiful Red Poppies. I love them so so much.

Happiness and love

Happiness and love

Happiness and love captured in this photo. Mother with her baby swan. The sky is bright and the air is fresh and full of summer scents.

melancholy

Melancholy

The exact opposite whispering from this photo. Cloudy and cold weather, seagulls screaming… walking alone at the Vag river carrying a mixture of thoughts and emotions.

I am not alone

I am not alone

Each cloud has a silver lining (maybe golden in this case). Being with my children at the river, having some nice time. Though it was cold and everything was wrapped in grey, the melancholy couldn’t enter our hearts.

Writing 101, Day 5: Freedom

In response to the Writing 101 with the theme Freedom

Freedom is giving

The most beautiful freedom is TO GIVE.
Give as much as we can,
without expectation.
This is the real freedom and wealth.
It starts in our mind, our heart, our soul.

We are full of resources – precious and beautiful:
words, love, time, smile, honor, compassion…
and yet more and more.

When we give, it makes us free.
When we give, it makes us rich.

We got freedom when we were born,
to give freely, yet feel joy.

The Weekly Photo Challenges: Happy place

In responhappy place1 happy place2 happy place3 happy place4 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAse to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Happy Place.”

Happy place was anywhere I could be or go with my children. In the first four pics is captured the evening we went to take a walk by the river. I think the freedom and faces are saying more than any words.

In the last pic is the place I loved the most while residing in Slovakia. The river and the swans were always a vessel of calmness and peace.
